After last year’s ceremony in Hamburg’s stunning Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall, the 25th anniversary edition of the ECHO KLASSIK will take place on 14th October 2018 at the Konzerthaus in Berlin. ECHO KLASSIK 2018 winners will be chosen by a jury of experts. As Rebecka Heinz, managing director of the ECHO – Deutscher Musikpreis noted: “With a total of 22 categories covering different centuries, instruments and fields, the ECHO KLASSIK has taken a comprehensive, all-encompassing approach to classical music – independent of sales figures – since it was launched in 1994. We’re very much looking forward to this year’s 25th instalment of the ceremony and especially to the many submissions from both smaller and bigger labels. These companies put forward their most outstanding and influential recordings of the year, thus giving their top artists an opportunity to receive a coveted ECHO KLASSIK award. Seeing as it’s our 25th anniversary, our special thanks go to ZDF, which has been a trusted partner at our side almost from the beginning. The team at ZDF makes it possible for millions of TV viewers to watch the ECHO KLASSIK on the screen of their choice. They have also always been eager to engage in new types of broadcasting, as was shown last year by the concurrent 360° livestream from the Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall in Hamburg.“

BACKGROUND: The ECHO KLASSIK is one of the most prestigious music awards in the world. Each year, a virtual who's-who of the international classical music scene attends the glamorous ceremony, which will mark its 25th anniversary in 2018. The gala will take place this year on 14th October at the Konzerthaus in Berlin. The German TV channel ZDF will broadcast the event that same evening at 10 pm.
The ECHO KLASSIK has been organised annually since 1994 by the Deutsche Phono-Akademie, which acts as the cultural arm of the BVMI. The awards honour outstanding performances by national and international artists independently of sales figures. The award winners are chosen by a jury consisting of eleven industry experts. The key goals of the ECHO KLASSIK are to recognise extraordinary recordings but also to use the prestigious award to foster national and international world stars alongside young talents and bring the fascination and diversity of classical music to a broader audience.
